TWTC Booth Guide: Height, Two-Story Booths, Load Rules, and Review Deadlines at Taipei World Trade Center, Hall 1
Updated: 1 day ago
By Chris | Vision Design
At TWTC Hall 1, the venue has clear written rules on how tall a booth can be, whether it can have two stories, and what can be hung. These are not things to deal with at construction time; they need to be decided on day one of the design.
This article covers the TWTC Hall 1 rules that most often affect booth design, and how we handle them at the design stage.
Key points: At TWTC Hall 1, booths 4 m or above count as over-height. You need 4 or more standard booths to apply, with a 6 m maximum. Two-story booths may not exceed 4 m in total height. Site plans are due for review 30 days before move-in; over-height and two-story applications are due 15 days before the show.

TWTC Hall 1 vs. Nangang Exhibition Center: What Is Different
When the same booth design moves to TWTC Hall 1, height and rigging are what most often have to change.
TWTC Hall 1 is in Xinyi District and is one of Taipei's longest-running exhibition venues. Book, jewelry, and consumer shows are often held here. Its venue rules are set by TAITRA under a separate set of operating regulations from Nangang Exhibition Center.
If you exhibited at Nangang last year and are moving to TWTC this year, do not reuse last year's construction drawings as they are. Check height, floor load, and review deadlines against the latest TWTC Hall 1 regulations first.
The Nangang rules are covered in Building a Booth at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
Height: 4 m Is the Dividing Line
Below 4 m, a booth follows the standard process. At 4 m and above it is "over-height": it needs an application, a fee, and enough standard booths.
The following is summarized from the TWTC Hall 1 Technical Regulations for Venue Operations (published May 8, 2026). The venue's latest version always takes precedence:
Over-height structures: anything 4 m or above counts as over-height. You must rent at least 4 standard booths to apply, and the structure may not exceed 6 m.
Over-height fee: calculated on the top-view projected area, billed per 18 m², with a minimum charge of one 18 m² unit even for smaller areas. See the venue regulations for current rates.
Two-story booths: also require at least 4 standard booths. The upper floor may be no higher than 2.5 m, with a total height of no more than 4 m. Two-story booths are not allowed on the 2nd floor of TWTC Hall 1.
So at TWTC, "building tall" and "building a second story" are two separate routes:
To be seen from a distance → go over-height. The fee is based on the top-view projected area of the over-height structure, so work it out before deciding how large the over-height part should be.
For an extra level of meeting space → go two-story. But the total height is capped at 4 m, so it will not look taller than a standard booth.
Brands with fewer than 4 standard booths cannot take either route. In that case, the fascia, lightboxes, and key visual layout have to make the booth visible within 4 m.
Load and Rigging: Calculate the Heavy Things First
Heavy exhibits and anything to be hung need to be decided at the design stage, or the review will send them back.
The ground floor may not exceed 1.3 tonnes per m², with a maximum of 11.7 tonnes per standard booth (based on 9 m²), including machines, display fixtures, and people.
Lighting, lightboxes, speakers, or video walls hung above a stage need structural calculations certified by an architect or structural engineer.
Booth ceilings must use fire-resistant or flame-retardant materials, with certificates.
Machines, stone, boxes of books, and samples all weigh more than you expect. We mark the positions of heavy items in the 3D proposal so the layout does not have to change later for load reasons.
Review Timeline: Count Back from Move-In
The two key dates at TWTC Hall 1 are 30 days before move-in and 15 days before the show.
30 days before move-in: the site plan and related documents are submitted to the venue for review.
15 days before the show: applications for over-height structures, two-story booths, stages or sound systems, and temporary advertising. Nothing may be built without the venue's written approval.
Add to that the organizer forms, which usually close about a month before move-in, and the design actually needs to be final even earlier. We recommend starting about 3 months before the show: confirm the booth location and budget, then do the 3D proposal, leaving more than a month for construction drawings and review.
The documents needed for review are listed in What to Submit for Organizer Review.

A Small Booth at TWTC: Taipei International Book Exhibition 2022
When the booth is small and cannot go over-height, give the key visual to one feature wall.
At the 2022 Taipei International Book Exhibition, we designed and built a small themed pavilion booth in TWTC Hall 1. Instead of building tall, it used one large illustrated feature wall with a fascia, so readers could see it from the aisle.
The inner walls presented each theme in comic-strip panels, with promotional materials on the display platforms below. The platforms and counter were made as two-tone blocks that carry on the key visual. The structure was a modular system with full-wall graphics, filling the key visual across the space within standard height.

Booth circulation and book-signing space at the Book Exhibition are covered separately in Taipei International Book Exhibition Guide.
Custom-Built or Modular System?
Both work at TWTC Hall 1. The difference is budget, build time, and whether you need sculpted forms.
Curves, special forms, or a stronger brand finish → custom-built booth
Tight budget and timeline, or a booth you will reuse → modular system booth

FAQ
Q: How tall can a booth be at TWTC Hall 1?
A: A standard booth stays below 4 m. To go above 4 m, you must rent at least 4 standard booths and apply for over-height, with a maximum structure height of 6 m and an over-height fee.
Q: Can we build a two-story booth at TWTC Hall 1?
A: Yes, but you must rent at least 4 standard booths. The upper floor may be no higher than 2.5 m, the total height no more than 4 m, and it is not allowed on the 2nd-floor hall. The application is due 15 days before the show.
Q: When are construction drawings due for review at TWTC Hall 1?
A: The site plan and related documents go to the venue for review 30 days before move-in. Applications for over-height, two-story, stage and sound, and temporary advertising are due 15 days before the show.
Q: What documents are needed to hang a video wall or lightbox?
A: Lighting, lightboxes, speakers, or video walls hung above a stage need structural calculations certified by an architect or structural engineer.
Q: How early should we look for a booth designer?
A: About 3 months before the show. For over-height or two-story booths, start earlier still to leave time for structural calculations and applications.
